**Senior Site Reliability Engineer** **Hot** **Krakow, Poland** Performance Engineering 2 days ago Post Date 008814 Requisition # The Sr. Site Reliability Engineer at Akamai is a dynamic role, focused on ensuring optimal performance and efficiency of the deployed Akamai Network. You will use your strong communication skills to work across all areas of the company, especially engineering, operations, networking, and technical services. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer you will be responsible for: Analyze and debug distributed Java applications, and distributed systems managing the cloud infrastructure. * Use and create home-grown and commercial tools to measure, analyze, and characterize performance, robustness, and scalability of the global Akamai platform. * Gathering and analyzing data to root out errors, discern trends, and diagnose complex customer-facing issues (pre- and post-sale) * Responding to incidents, but more importantly preventing incidents through pro-active analysis and monitoring * Solve complex service issues: service incidents, complex customer setups, field trials, and server and network performance and availability issues. * Identify and communicate the need for technology improvements/software updates and product innovation. Work with engineering, product management, operations, network infrastructure, and business development teams. * Work on projects that make our network more stable, faster, and secure. * Work with groups within Akamai to solve customer issues. * Answer escalations from other organizations inside of Akamai. * Work with development engineers to solve platform problems and design code fixes. * Implement changes and design regression tests to make permanent solutions to platform problems. * Implement tools and develop procedures for use by other non-Engineering groups inside Akamai to help diagnose or mitigate problems related to the stability and reliability of services. **About the team:** The Cloud Networking Service Performance Team is an elite group of highly skilled and motivated people who measure, analyze, and improve our systems. They are generalists with deep technical understanding who enjoy solving complex problems, both in software and the Internet. **Required Skills** * 5+ years industry experience in programming. * 3+ years industry experience with Linux or other Unix-like flavor. * 2+ years of experience with most of the following: TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, HTML, and SSL protocols. * 2+ years of experience with distributed systems and monitoring; LAMP and NMS (Nagios, MRTG). **Desired Skills** * Ability to write clear documents in English describing network issues and their resolution. * Experience with and detailed knowledge of the HTTP protocol. * Experience with Java web applications. * Exposure to network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, etc). * Working knowledge of SQL. * Ability to handle multiple issues at a time. * Understanding of common internet principles and protocols and implementation. * Experience with principles of software development and design, and experience with common programming languages such as SQL, perl, python, C/C#. * Thorough understanding of distributed systems and/or virtual machine systems * Experience in networked systems operation and monitoring.
