**Senior System Operations Engineer - Distributed Platform** **Cambridge, United States** Network Operations 3 hours ago Post Date 005090 Requisition # The Senior System Operations Engineer directly supports the core infrastructure services at Akamai. We are looking for passionate, knowledgeable individuals who want to help run one of the largest networks in the world. As a Sr. Systems Operations Engineer you will be responsible for: * Providing operational management and support of Akamai’s global production network by collaborating with multiple teams on multiple products that extend across Akamai’s global sites. * Conducting and manage software rollouts that span massive, multi-service, complex networks. * Driving platform improvements and increase operational efficiencies by analyzing behaviors and trends, implementing code, increasing automation, creating and improving alerts and notifications * Troubleshooting and resolve complex technical issues that can impact multiple systems, tools, products and customers. * Representing System Operations in standard incident reviews * Handling escalations from our Network Operations Command Center with a persistent eye towards process improvement and incident prevention. * Collaborating with Development and Performance teams across the globe and work on projects that are driven towards operational growth and improvements **About the team** The System Operations team manages Akamai's production environment and shares responsibility for keeping it fast, secure and reliable. This role requires in-depth knowledge of proprietary services in addition to a big-picture understanding of the entire infrastructure. Members of this group support critical activities that involve Akamai’s global mapping and DNS platform, distributed storage, streaming infrastructure, emerging mobile products and security systems. System Operations Engineers work directly with the company’s top development teams to deploy new products across 200,000+ servers around the globe. The System Operations team ensures that Akamai’s platform remains reliable and maintainable in a fast paced, evolving environment. **Required Education and Experience** Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements: * 8 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or its equivalent or * 6 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree in computer science/engineering or * relevant experience and a PhD in computer science/engineering **Required Skills** * 5+ years of experience years of experience in operations or system administration * 5+ years of experience with a scripting language (Python, Perl, shell) * 5+ years of experience with internet protocols such as DNS, HTTP, SSL * 5+ years of experience with Unix/Linux systems * 2+ years of experience networking concepts (TCP/IP, UDP, etc.) *2years of experience working with SQL **Desired Skills** * Experience with the operation of internet-scale systems * The ability to apply technical knowledge toward analyzing, diagnosing and resolving issues in a large complex production environment * Effectively communicate and collaborate with multiple teams across multiple sites * Self-motivated with a consistent drive towards results Akamai Technologies is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer that values the strength that diversity brings to the workplace.
