**Solutions Engineer** **Chicago, United States** Sales/Sales Engineering Jan 05, 2017 Post Date 007010 Requisition # **Overview** Solutions Engineers (SE’s) are experienced sales engineering professionals, adept at defining solutions that meet the business and technical requirements of existing and prospective Akamai customers. A Solution Engineer is self-directed, capable of leading technical sales activities, managing the customer technical relationship, and assuming subject matter expert responsibilities within Akamai. As a Solutions Engineer you will be responsible for: * Driving revenue and creating sales opportunities by managing the pre-sales technical process and evangelizing Akamai's technology to existing and prospective customers * Partnering with direct sales and executive sponsors to educate existing and prospective customers about the superiority of Akamai's services - this includes conference calls, site visits, presentations, technical evaluations, technical objection handling, proposals, and follow up on all customer related issues * Engaging and overseeing the development of customer proposals, design and delivery, ensuring all expertise, information and recommendations are concisely defined, while meeting Akamai quality control standards * Supporting and educating Sales, Marketing and other internal departments to ensure that customers get appropriate updates, upgrades and event-oriented solutions * Driving excellent customer satisfaction by understanding and over-delivering against Customer expectations **About the Team** The Commerce Services team is an experienced group of industry experts and Internet technologists working with the top retailers in the IR 100, the next up and coming retailers and the largest travel & hospitality companies. From a range of backgrounds across the Commerce sector, they engage with our customers to consult on industry best practices, design and build quality solutions, and always maintain the highest quality customer service. **Qualifications** **Required Education and Experience** Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience requirements: * 5 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience or * 3 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or * Relevant experience and a PhD **Required Skills** * 3+ years of experience in technical pre-sales/sales engineering, consulting, and/or other customer facing role consulting on, delivering technical products or services * 2+ years of experience in Internet technologies, standards and protocols, including DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, Web architecture and design * 2+ years of experience with Internet or Enterprise Security and an understanding of basic security architecture and functional elements including firewalls, DDOS protection, etc. **Desired Skills** * Familiarity with Application Security * Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present technical and business related subjects to all audiences, from the user to the executive level * Demonstrated success developing client relationships * Experience in a customer facing role requiring a high level of individual responsibility, sound business judgment and large enterprise account management, where an aptitude for improving customer satisfaction was successfully demonstrated Akamai Technologies is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer that values the strength that diversity brings to the workplace.
