170246 Safety Specialist Our customer located in Novi, MI is seeking an experienced Safety Specialist for a direct hire position. The salary range for this position is dependent upon level of experience. This position requires travel up to 10%. Summary Responsible for Safety and Health program for the Novi Technical Center campus. Coordinate and support activities at all levels of campus including OSHA and state-related safety compliance and corporate reporting. Essential Job Functions Ensure campus safety compliance, including inspection activities for campus facilities, relative to OSHA and other federal, state, and local agency regulations, as well as company safety policy. Develop, implement, and manage safety policies, programs, and procedures designed to avoid personal injuries and illnesses and encourage safe behavior of all team members. Perform periodic safety and compliance audits, including identifying and promptly informing management of compliance issues, safety risks, and improvement opportunities. Assist management with the evaluation of safety problems and team members’ safety recommendations and complaints. Coordinate with Safety to recommend corrective measures accordingly. Facilitate incident investigation and the implementation of countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence. Compile statistical data for objective analysis and reporting to measure key aspects of safety program’s effectiveness and drive issue countermeasures and solutions. Facilitate / conduct risk assessments related to new equipment, material and process introductions; including ergonomic evaluations and required periodic assessment renewal, and reassessment upon revision of equipment, material, and processes. Coordinate industrial hygiene inspections to establish baseline conditions and develop countermeasures as needed to eliminate and/or manage workplace exposures. Attend necessary seminars and training to maintain and update skills in industrial safety, federal and state occupational safety, and health laws and regulations. Facilitate / attend monthly safety meetings communicating current key safety topic status and upcoming items. Maintain team member PPE issuance and exchange inventory. Maintain safety program master schedule and report status. Maintain campus safety program records. Minimum Qualifications / Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Entry-level to 4 years of relevant work experience. Facility management experience preferred. Experience navigating regulatory requirements (OSHA, NIST, NFPA) is preferred. Personal / Technical Skills Strong task management and organization skills. Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of the organization. Ability to compile effective and concise visual reports. Ability to work in a team environment. Problem solving skills. Technical writing skills for work instructions and policy writing. Effective time management skills. Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision. Language Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Computer / Software Skills Solid working knowledge and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Project, and other computer-based applications. Work Environment / Conditions Office: Open Office Environment, moderate noise level. Laboratory / Plant: Light industrial laboratory, assembly plant, fabrication environments. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to talk, see, and hear.
